Configuring PINE for Macintosh to Filter UCE
The document describes how to configure the University of Washington's PINE e-mail client to recogonize mail flaged as "bulk mail" or "UCE" by our servers.

Mail Processing
All mail sent through Digital Indigo's servers is processed through special filters. These filters use complex analysis to attempt the detection of junk e-mail, commonly called UCE or spam.

Mail that is detected as UCE is stamped with a flag that is not visable to the user, but can be detected by your mail program. Below are the steps necessary for Entouage to read this flag and redirect suspected UCE.

IMPORTANT!
UCE filters are not perfect. Sometimes they will allow UCE to pass through to your normal mailbox. Other times they may move legitimate e-mails to the "Bulk Mail" folder! Be sure to check your "Bulk Mail" directory from time to time for legitimate e-mail.

PINE For UNIX/GNU/Linux:
From the main menu press the (S)etup
From Setup menu, press (R)ules
From Rules menu, press (F)ilters
From Filters, press A to Add a New Rule.
Highlight Nickname and press <ENTER>
Type "UCE Filter" into the box and press <ENTER>
Scroll down and highlight To Pattern, press (X)tra Header
At "Enter the name of the header field to be added:" prompt, type X-Spam-Flag then press <ENTER>
NOTE: When typing X-Spam-Flag, remember to type "pam" in Spam, and "lag" in Flag in lowercase!
Highlight "X-Spam-Flag pattern" and press <ENTER>

At "Enter the text to be added" prompt type True, press <ENTER>
Scroll down to Filter Actions and highlight Move
Highlight Folder List on line below and press <ENTER>
Type bulkmail, press <ENTER>
Press (E)xit Setup
At Commit Changes promt, press (Y)es
At Folder "bulkmail" in <Mail> doesn't exist. Create? prompt, press (Y)es

Don't forget to open your Bulk Mail folder from time to to. Delete unnecessary messages, and make sure no non-UCE messages were accidentially flagged as Bulk Mail!
