How do I send mail to "Undisclosed Recipients?"

By sending an e-mail to "Undisclosed Recipients" you can send to multiple people, without any given person being able to see who else received the e-mail. This is useful if you do not want everyone who is receiving an e-mail to know the other people who also received the e-mail. It also keep an e-mail header short in situations where you are mailing a significant amount of people.

To accomplish this, one needs to use the Bcc: feature of their e-mail program. Bcc stands for Blind Carbon Copy and all it means is that nobody receiving the letter will see the other recipients names, too. The Bcc feature can be found in virtually all e-mail clients, including Eudora, Microsoft Outlook, and PINE.

If you have trouble locating Bcc on your mailer, consult the manual or the company/author of the software.

Using PINE
In the PINE e-mail program, Bcc does not inherently show up when one goes to create a new e-mail. After pressing "C" to create a new e-mail, the user must hit "CTRL-R" while still in the header of the new e-mail. This feature turns on the "Rich Header" which, convienently has "Bcc" as one of the options. Simply fill in the recipients in the Bcc area, type your letter, and hit CTRL-X to mail it off. That's it!

Note: You do not need to have any addresses in the "To:" or "cc:" fields to utilize the "Bcc:" feature.
