Dreamweaver
can be set up two different ways. The first is using FTP. The
second is using Appleshare on a Macintosh as a network drive.
This document will primarily focus on setting up using FTP. Macintosh
users with high speed Internet connections should feel free to
contact Digital Indigo for more information on using the Appleshare
feature.
To
set up Dreamweaver for FTP, your settings should be the following:
Server
Access. Server access will always be set to FTP when using
the FTP method of site transfer.
FTP
Host. The FTP host will always be your domain name. If you
are updating the website www.joesmith.com, then joesmith.com is
you FTP host.
Host
Directory. The host directory will always be "www/"
Some highly customized accounts may have an exception to this.
If you are experiencing problems with your initial Dreamweaver
setup, and suspect that your host directory isn't www/, please
contact us.
The login is the username you received for your web account when
you initially set it up.
Password.
The password is the password you received from Digital Indigo
when you set up the account (or your new password, if you changed
your password since it was set up.)
Save.
The save box can be checked so that Dreamweaver stored your password.
This is useful so that you need not type in the password upon
each update.
Firewall.
Most business and many homes now use devices to protect computers
from the Internet. These devices often require the use of "Passive
FTP". We recommend that user check Passive FTP for their
configuration.
