Outdoor Activities Starting Points

We're always planning outdoor adventures that anyone can participate in. Regardless of whether your a Digital Indigo customer or not, we encourage you to come out and explore the outdoors with us. You can subscribe to our events iCalendar service, or check out our calendar on the web. Activities include cross-country XC skiing, road biking, mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, and motorcycle trips to name a few! Listed below are some of our common meeting spots. Please be sure to call or e-mail ahead of time for an event, so we know your coming!

York Rail Trail
The York Rail Trail is the areas premiere rail trail. Featuring pleanty of restaurants, bars, and small shops it provides all the amenities you need while biking! The trail is the best groomed trail in the Lancaster, Lebanon, and York counties. A mountain bike, hybrid, or cyclocross bike is recommended. However you can also take a recumbent with fat tires with little difficulty.

Unless otherwise directed, trips for the York Rail Trail will begin at the city trail head located off of Philadelphia Street. To get there from Lancaster:

  • Take 30 West to N. George Street.
  • Turn LEFT onto N. George Street.
  • Turn RIGHT onto Philadelphia Street.
  • Turn LEFT immediately after Pershing Avenue into trailhead parking area.

 

Lebanon Valley Rail Trail
The Lebanon Valley Rail Trail rolls through the back woods of Mt. Gretna. It is close to ice cream shops, restaurants, and bars. The trail can be washed out or present challenges with loose stone at some places. The trail turns to dirt (or sometimes mud) as it crosses the Lancaster County line. A mountain bike is recommended. However you can also take a cyclocross or hybrid with little difficult.

Unless otherwise directed, trips for the Lebanon Valley Rail Trail will begin at the Cornwall trail head located off Route 419. To get there from Lancaster:

  • Take 72 North if you life in central Lancaster County -OR- if you live in Northern Lancaster County take 501 North to Route 322 West to 72 North
  • Turn RIGHT onto Route 419.
  • The trail head is across from the Keller Brothers Ford sign after passing the Cornwall Elementary School.
  • Turn LEFT immediately after Pershing Avenue into trailhead parking area.

Speedwell Forge Lake
Speedwell offers a fun area to get some easy kayaking in. Despite its small size, the prohibition of motorized boats makes the lake a smooth, quiet, fume free area to spend time. There is plenty of wildlife to explore, including herons, and turtles—particularly in the northern end of the lake.

Unless otherwise directed, boating on Speedwell will launch on the south side of Brubaker Valley Road, directly across from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission office. You are REQUIRED to have a launch permit at Speedwell. To get there from Lancaster:

  • Take 501 North.
  • Turn LEFT onto Brubaker Valley Road.
  • The launch will be on your left after you cross the bridge that spans Speedwell Lake.

Susquehanna River — Blue Rock Boat Launch
The Susquehanna River offers a wide variaty of water types, wildlife, and unique islands. Frequently we kayak from Blue Rock Launch to the John Wright Restaurant, in Wrightsville. After a lunch we head back down the river to explore around Long Level.

Unless otherwise directed, boating from Blue Rock will launch from the area at the end of Blue Rock Road where it intersects River Road. To get there from Lancaster:

  • Take 999 West to the River.
  • Turn LEFT onto River Road.
  • The launch will be on your RIGHT, across from Blue Rock Road.
